Year 6 Residential to France
Posted: 6th June 2024
On Monday 20th May, Year 6 waved goodbye to their families and boarded the bus, headed for Dover, and on to Normandy!
The first stop was the Nausicaa Sealife Centre where the children learnt all about the abundance of life in our oceans. They had the pleasure of viewing giant sting rays, turtles and sharks in Europe’s largest aquatic preserve.
During the week, the children also visited the town of Dieppe where they used their French skills to buy local produce from the farmers market, and L’Arb Adventure where they took on a high ropes course. The children worked brilliantly together, sharing the challenge and revelled in their accomplishment. Other activities included a visit to a local apple farm to learn about the process of making cider, apple vinegar and juice, as well as a lesson in making French bread, and a class in circus skills such as juggling balls and scarves. On their final full day, they visited the seaside town of Le Tréport and rode the historic funicular from the beach front to the upper town, taking in the picturesque view and learning about the town and its history. That afternoon they travelled to a local ‘biscuitiers’ to learn the art of biscuit making!
Overall, the children immersed themselves in French culture and learnt so much about life across the channel. Well done to all of Year 6 for making the most of their final Kew College Prep residential!
