Harvest Festival 2023

Posted: 11th October 2023

This Wednesday, the whole school embraced our annual Harvest celebrations; showing our gratitude for what we have through song and supporting those less fortunate than ourselves with generous food donations.

We were blessed with amazing contributions of food and everyday items from everyone across the school, which was gratefully received by our visitors: Richmond Food Bank; Paul, Kev and Bob would like to extend their heart-felt gratitude to all the parents who gave so generously as they have assured us these donations will be put to excellent use very shortly!

The Juniors started our Harvest celebrations with their assembly, consisting of the usual singing and poetry. Upper School Choir started the whole event with a couple of well-known songs, and our Middle School Choir closed the performances. Both choirs did a Stirling job, and I was, as always, amazed by their level of energy and commitment to singing so beautifully! Our Year 6 poetry readers this year were: Ching Mae, Emily, Gloria, Clara and Ryan. They wrote these poems themselves and delivered them with complete confidence. A huge thank you to Miss Jones for supporting such lovely creativity. As is tradition with Harvest, the whole of the Junior House gave us a rousing rendition of two songs; the traditional ‘We plough the fields and scatter’ and the more modern ‘Conkers’ which they all thoroughly enjoyed!

The infants then had their own Harvest celebration, where they focused on singing, which they did with total confidence! Year 1 and 2 combined forces to sing ‘Harvest Harmony’, whilst the younger children from EYFS sang ‘The Harvest Cokey’- this included nursery for the first time, so thank you for joining us for this special event. It would not be Harvest without singing the well-known piece ‘Cauliflowers Fluffy’, which they all did with gusto!

Our Harvest celebrations this year were successful, and that is due to the support they have with singing at home, and of course the generous food donations.

We thank you for your support with this wonderful Harvest event and look forward to next year.
